Humanitarian Assistance by the ICRC in the Central African Republic

The Central African Republic has been affected by armed conflict and recurring violence for many years. In various parts of the country, clashes and insecurity continue to cause displacement. Damaged infrastructure, rising food prices, food insecurity and extreme weather events further aggravate the humanitarian situation. Poor road conditions and challenging security circumstances also hinder access to affected communities.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has been active in the Central African Republic since 1983 and has maintained a permanent presence in the country since 2007. Its work focuses particularly on hard-to-reach areas and on humanitarian needs that are not adequately covered by existing assistance.

The ICRC engages in confidential dialogue with authorities and weapon bearers, visits people in detention, and helps separated families restore contact and search for missing relatives. It provides food assistance and cash support, distributes essential household items, and supports food production and income-generating activities. Additional activities improve access to healthcare, rehabilitation services, safe drinking water and sanitation.

Liechtenstein’s contribution helps protect particularly vulnerable people and ensures they receive life-saving assistance in a protracted crisis that receives limited international attention.
