Red Cross Assistance Following the Floods in Nepal

On 26 August 2026, a severe flash flood along the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river systems in Nepal caused extensive damage. Around 93,000 people were affected, and more than 6,000 homes were completely destroyed. The districts of Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading, as well as other downstream areas, were particularly hard hit. Several communities remain difficult to access, and there is an ongoing risk of further flooding and landslides.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), together with the Nepal Red Cross Society, is supporting the affected population. The 24‑month operation combines immediate emergency relief with reconstruction and longer-term recovery efforts.

Affected households receive temporary shelter, blankets, mattresses, household items, warm clothing and cash assistance. Additional measures include first aid, health awareness activities, psychosocial support, epidemic prevention, and the provision of safe drinking water and hygiene kits. Damaged water supply systems are being repaired. The Red Cross also supports the restoration of family links and provides targeted assistance to people with heightened protection needs.

Liechtenstein is contributing to the international emergency appeal, helping to meet immediate needs and support recovery in the affected communities. At the same time, the Nepal Red Cross Society and local emergency responders are being strengthened to continue delivering assistance and to prepare for future disasters.
