Targeted Flood Relief by Chay Ya in Nepal
The severe floods of 26 August 2026 caused extensive damage to homes, transport infrastructure, energy facilities, water systems and communication networks across Nepal. Around 93,000 people were affected, and more than 6,000 homes were completely destroyed. In several remote and hard-to-reach communities, there is a particular shortage of safe shelter, food, drinking water, hygiene supplies and healthcare services.
Chay Ya Nepal has local field offices, extensive experience in disaster response and well-established relationships with the relevant authorities. This enables the organisation to assess urgent needs even in remote locations and to procure and distribute relief supplies in a targeted manner.
Working together with local authorities and health centres, Chay Ya identifies the most severely affected households using transparent vulnerability criteria. Around 1,000 households, representing approximately 4,000 people, in the districts of Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Gorkha will receive essential food supplies, hygiene and water kits, tarpaulins and mosquito nets.
An additional 550 pregnant and breastfeeding women will receive specialised relief packages containing nutritious food, hygiene products, blankets, sleeping mats and cooking utensils. Children, older people, persons with disabilities and other particularly vulnerable or marginalised individuals will also be prioritised.
Through its contribution, Liechtenstein strengthens the humanitarian commitment of a Liechtenstein-based organisation while enabling a rapid and locally led response in Nepal.
