The Sahel region comprises the countries of Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania and Niger. All five countries face complex challenges, including food insecurity with malnutrition and poor basic services as well as political and economic instability.

Heavy rainfall and flash floods in Kenya claimed many lives by the end of April 2024. Over 150'000 people have been displaced and almost 200‘000 people were affected by the disaster.
