Training for renewable energy solutions in Africa
In most African countries, there are only limited training programmes that offer people the opportunity to work in the field of climate change mitigation. These training programmes are often unaffordable, especially for disadvantaged parts of the population. For this purpose, the Liechtenstein Institute for Strategic Development (LISD) has launched a scholarship programme: the "Liechtenstein Renewable Energy Enterprise Development (REED) Scholarship - Sustainability Programme for Africa". With its focus on renewable energies, the programme enables scholarship holders to complete a Master's degree at one of several African universities. This enables them to acquire specific expertise that they can use to make an important contribution to combating climate change.
REED aims to promote innovative solutions for the use of renewable energies in the supply of electricity to households and businesses. REED grantees therefore focus on the decentralised and local generation and use of energy from renewable energy sources. So far, 70 students and seven partner universities have benefited from the support and have been able to contribute to the economic development, energy sovereignty and resilience of the regions.
Project goals
Highly motivated or qualified young applicants in financial need are given the opportunity to study for a Master's degree at a selected African university.
REED scholarship holders acquire specific expertise that they can use to develop innovative solutions for generating electricity from renewable, decentralised and off-grid energy sources.
The solutions are designed to provide local households and businesses with a secure and affordable supply of energy in the long term and to combat climate change.
