Education for opportunities – empowerment of women & young people in the Sahel (Sahel Opportunities)
The socio-economic integration of youth is a major challenge in West Africa, as they are often unaware of the opportunities offered by the agricultural sector and/or do not have access to training/capacity building opportunities.
Moreover, few of these opportunities are adapted to market needs. SIFAs (Site Intégré de Formation Agricole) are accessible, community-run, hands-on training centres for young people that prepare and guide them in a short period of time to start their own lucrative farming business.
Project goals
Young adult producers learn agroecological practices, entrepreneurial skills, and market knowledge to engage in lucrative agricultural activities adapted to climate change.
SIFAs are recognized as centers of excellence for agroecological agricultural training and innovative practices adapted to climate change, which promote producer empowerment and improve the environmental impact of the agricultural sector.
SIFAs are recognized as official vocational training institutions and are managed by local actors.
