ICRC Special Appeal: Protection from Explosive Remnants of War & Inclusion for Vulnerable Communities
Millions of people live under constant threat from landmines and unexploded ordnance. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is launching a Special Appeal to promote protection, rehabilitation and inclusion – through a holistic approach that places safety and human dignity at its core.
Contamination by explosive remnants of war poses an acute danger to civilians in over 30 countries. Between 2022 and 2023, the number of civilian casualties rose by 22%. This contamination prevents safe return, hinders access to essential services, and obstructs reconstruction efforts. The ICRC responds with targeted measures: clearing contaminated areas, raising risk awareness, providing medical and psychosocial support to survivors, and building local capacities.
Liechtenstein can continue its humanitarian commitment by contributing to this appeal, thereby supporting key priorities of its foreign policy – the protection of human dignity, the promotion of international humanitarian law, and targeted assistance to vulnerable groups.
