The war has had a devastating impact on Ukraine’s economy and destroyed the livelihoods of many people. Internally displaced persons, returnees and the communities hosting them have been particularly affected. Caritas Switzerland’s project supports these groups in rebuilding their economic foundations and creating new income opportunities.

The project focuses on supporting micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), improving access to the labour market and strengthening vocational skills. Businesses receive targeted financial assistance and advisory services to help them restart or expand their operations. In addition, labour market-oriented vocational training programmes and so-called “Cash for Jobs” initiatives are implemented to facilitate access to sustainable employment.

The project also strengthens local partner organisations and develops the foundations for long-term market-oriented economic development. It combines humanitarian assistance, development cooperation and peacebuilding, thereby contributing both to economic recovery and to social cohesion in the affected regions. Particular attention is given to vulnerable groups such as women, young people, veterans, persons with disabilities, older people and ethnic minorities.
