A project by Office for Foreign Affairs

Strengthening the Capacities of Sudanese Women in Peace Negotiations

The armed conflict that has escalated since 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has triggered one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises. Nearly half of the population is affected by hunger, millions have been displaced, and women in particular suffer from violence, restricted freedom of movement, and political exclusion. Despite their essential role in achieving sustainable peace, women remain largely underrepresented in formal negotiations.

The programme of the Swiss organisation PeaceWomen Across the Globe (PWAG) responds to this reality by strengthening Sudanese women as active agents in peace processes, creating safe spaces for dialogue, trust and solidarity, and fostering the development of joint strategies for ongoing and future peace negotiations. With Liechtenstein’s support, women in Dilling (Sudan) as well as those in the diaspora in Kampala (Uganda) are empowered to make their perspectives visible and to be recognised as legitimate voices.

The project directly supports the implementation of the UN agenda “Women, Peace and Security” and promotes women’s rights in one of today’s most neglected conflict contexts.
